Dry Stone Work Projects Abroad Masonry Work

Decorative stone work is a great way to enhance the look of any outdoor or indoor space. Stone sculptures, terracing, water features, patios, pathways, seats, tables, fireplaces, barbeques, bars.. there's no end to the possibilities!

Gardens in particular benefit from the use of stone. It has a very appealing, natural quality which can transform any garden. Not only attractive, it's a practical choice because of its hard-wearing durability, requiring very little maintenance - a well built dry stone wall should last a hundred years!

If you're keen on getting some more wildlife into your garden then a dry stone wall also provides an excellent habitat for all kinds of plants and animals.

I've worked on many such projects over the years, some of which are shown below - click on the pictures to see them at full size and with more information or Start a Slideshow to view all the images in this category.

Kirkcudbright Academy Remembrance Garden

Remembrance garden in kirkcudbright academy as featured on the Beechgrove Garden. Features here included a slate pyramid, cobbled spiral, slabbed pathways and dry stone dykes with incorpated seating.

Heriot-Watt University grounds linked brochs

A series of six dry stone brochs with turf top. These brochs were installed as an area where the students at Heriot-Watt University can go to read or study. I have also carried out extensive repointing work to the walls in the walled garden and constructed a dry stone barbeque as well as various other little jobs around the grounds.

Estate gardens

Timber edged paths laid out with fine blaze finish (very fine graded gravel) and central dry stone pond with fountain. Also york stone slabbed edging on herbaceous border.

Windows in walls

This was an interesting idea which added a whole new dimension to an othewise plain masonry wall. There are four windows in total all constructed using granite cube sets, contrasting nicely with the stone of the surrounding wall.
